Student GrantsThese were once available to everyone but a complete overhaul over the education funding system back in the year 2000 saw it limited to those who come from less fortunate backgrounds. This grant is available to those full-time undergraduate students whose family income is below the threshold of £21,185. This figure was set by the Department for Education and Skills (D.E.S.). Those students that fall into this bracket will automatically be assessed for the new grant at the same time that they apply to the Local Education Authority (L.E.A.) for the student loan. The amount that the student is allowed access to is a non-repayable award of up to £1,000 per annum. However, for those students whose family income is between £15,201 and £21,185 they will only get a partial grant to cover their tuition fees. Below shows the grants available after an assessment of your household income.
As of September 2006, all new full-time students from lower income households will be able to apply for a non-repayable maintenance grant of up to £2,700 a year. How much you will get shall depend upon your income and that of your household. If that income is around £15,000 or less you are likely to be eligible for a full grant worth £2,700 a year. Partial grants are likely to be available for those with a household income of between around £15,000 and around £33,000.
